CRNA Student Tuition Reimbursement Disability Insurance

This coverage is designed to provide tuition reimbursement coverage for enrolled CRNA students who suffer a Covered Total Disability (later defined) while in the process of obtaining their CRNA designation leaving them unable to complete their education and become a Certified Registered Nurse of Anesthesiology.

The benefit payable would be a lump sum of the tuition and fees incurred and payable up to the point of disability.

Benefit Features

  • A Covered Total Disability (later defined) is one presumed to be permanent and irreversible and there would be no expectation that a student could ever complete the CRNA program.
  • The benefit is equal to the students paid/payable tuition and fees for their CRNA program, up to the point of disability.
  • Benefit payment is made in a lump sum fashion upon completion of a 60-day waiting period following the diagnosis of the Covered Total Disability.
  • Reimburses student for insured tuition and fees incurred up to the point of disability.
  • Insurance coverage ends upon the completion of the students CRNA program or when they cease to be enrolled and attending classes.

Who is eligible

Available to Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists under age 60, attending classes at an accredited CRNA program recognized by the AANA in the United States (excludes programs in NH, NV, VT and territories) and are US Residents and not on active duty in the armed forces.

Cost per semester

$10.00 per $1,000 of per semester of CRNA student tuition and fees.

You will be covered 24 hours per day 7 days per week while continuously enrolled in the CRNA program and coverage will automatically renew each semester for the duration of the program.

For example, If the school has two semesters per year at $10,000 each ($20,000 per year), premium is due at the beginning of each semester and based on the tuition/fees due for that semester ($10 x 10 = $100 per semester / $200 per year).

A $5 billing fee will be added to each premium statement. To avoid this fee, please select Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) from your bank account.

Definitions, Exclusions and Limitations

Covered Total Disability: means an injury or sickness, certified by a licensed Physician, that results in:

  1. total and permanent loss of sight of both eyes;
  2. total and permanent loss of hearing of both ears;
  3. loss of the ability to speak;
  4. total and permanent entire lack of controlled movement of: (a) both hands; (b) both feet; or (c) one hand and one foot
  5. an inability to perform any two “Activities of Daily Living” (bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring, eating and continence): or
  6. “Cognitive Impairment” (a loss or deterioration of intellectual ability as determined using reliable standardized tests and clinical evidence demonstrating impairment in one or more of the following: (1) a person’s short – or long–term memory; (2) orientation as to person, place and time; (3) deductive or abstract reasoning; or (4) judgment as it relates to safety awareness.)

Tuitions and fee’s mean, the actual cost of the Tuition and Fee’s as recorded by the Bursar of the CRNA program or school for each individual student.

Exclusions: The following disabilities are excluded. A disability that: (a) occurs during; (b) is due to; or (c) is related to; the covered person’s

  • Air Travel, unless the covered person is traveling: (1) solely as a fare paying passenger on a licensed, commercial, regularly scheduled, non-military aircraft; (2) in a civil aircraft having a current and valid “Standard Federal Aviation Agency Airworthiness Certificate” and piloted by a person with a current and valid pilot’s certificate with proper ratings for the type of flight and aircraft involved; or (3) in a transport type aircraft operated by the Air Mobility Command or its successor organization of the United States or similar air service of any other country.
  • Crime/Illegal Occupation/Illegal Activity - the covered person’s active participation in or incarceration resulting from any of the following in a role other than as a victim: (a) the commission of a felony; (b) an illegal occupation or activity; (c) an insurrection; or (d) a riot.
  • Military Service – A disability that is due to or related to service in the military, naval or air force of any country, alliance or international organization or in a civilian unit which serves such force.
  • Preexisting Condition - A disability that is classified as or related to a Preexisting Condition (defined below)
  • Self-Inflicted Injury while the covered person is sane or insane.
  • War Conditions - A disability that: (a) occurs during; (b) is due to; or (c) is related to; the covered person’s engagement in any of the following in a role other than as a victim: (a) in war, (b) an act of war, or (c) an armed conflict which involves the armed forces of one or more countries

“Preexisting Condition” is an injury or sickness, or any condition related to such injury or sickness for which a person consults a doctor, receives medical services or supplies or takes any medication during the 12-month period immediately before the covered persons insurance effective date.

Preexisting Condition does not include:

  1. any such injury or sickness or condition for which such person has not consulted a doctor, received medical services or supplies or taken any medication during the 12 month period immediately after he or she first becomes a covered person; or
  2. any such injury or sickness or condition after such person has been continuously insured under the Policy for 24 months.
